Human talent abounds

THE pavilion at the Pakenham Show is always a drawcard for the crowds, with an abundance of arts and crafts, flowers, cakes, vegetables and fruit on display.
Of particular interest this year are the handspun wool and the wine competitions.
The organisers of the pavilion events are calling for entries of handspun skeins and wines, both of which will be judged on Friday night, before the March 21 show, where visitors will be able to see the winning entries. The most popular photographic section draws about 500 entries. This year a new section about life on the land enables the winning photographer to go on to the next level of competition and potentially to the Royal Melbourne Show.
Categories in jams and other cooking items, and folk art, always attract many entries, but the organisers expect fewer entries in the fruit and vegetable areas this year because of the extreme weather conditions.
Take time out to stop and smell the roses. More than 75 cut flower and arrangement categories will be on display and judged in the pavilion.
In the needlework, craftwork, ceramics, and painting sections people will enter their original pieces in the hope they will be adjudged the best in the show.
A special category of people, places and pastimes in the Cardinia Shire will be on display in the form of postcards and images in the shire’s own section of the pavilion.
Children, too, are welcome to enter their best piece of art, craftwork, cooking or flower arrangement to be put up for judging.
The pavilion is a fascinating display of human talent for both children and adults alike. For information contact the secretary on 5940 1888.
