SLITHERY, slimy creatures were on show at Lakeside Children’s Centre last week.
Children got up close to snakes, lizards, frogs and turtles as part of the wildlife education program.
Andrew Wegener, of Australian Wildlife Lectures, taught the four-year-old preschoolers about what to do if they were approached by a dangerous animal in the wild.
“If you see a snake, leave it alone,” he told the children.
Kindergarten teacher Kimberley Taylor said the visit gave the children a great “hands-on” experience with some of Australia’s more unusual creatures.
Mr Wegner also spoke about echidnas and crocodiles – although he didn’t have any live props.
He emphasised that the species he brought along were pets and much different to any in the wild.
