Gun on target again

THE chance is on again for one rising star of the Casey Cardinia League to be named as the competition’s 2009 Pakenham Gazette Young Gun.
Throughout the season the most promising young players coming through the ranks and performing well at senior level will be eligible for nomination by their club or by league officials and then added to the list of candidates to be selected as one of six finalists for the award.
Last season there were several outstanding candidates, with the final decision on Young Gun of the year resting between Devon Meadows midfielder Stefan Baumgartner and Keysborough grand-final defender Michael Downie.
Baumgartner was given the nod and that decision was vindicated by Dandenong Stingrays’ selectors who have since added the talented youngster to the final TAC Cup list for 2009.
A player will be nominated every four weeks with the overall 2009 winner being announced at the MPNFL vote-count dinner in September.
The Young Gun award was an initiative of the Pakenham Gazette and has now spread to include the other two MPNFL divisions with the award gaining prestige over the past four years.
It is now being recognised as an important acknowledgment of junior talent across the MPNFL.
