Major fuel burn-offs for shire planned

TWO major fuel reduction burns will take place in Cardinia Shire before winter.
The Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) has planned burns in Wright Forest, Cockatoo, and Cardinia Reservoir Park, Emerald.
DSE District Fire Manager for East Metropolitan Anthony Maxwell said ecological benefits and asset protection would result.
“Planned burns don’t eliminate the risk of fire, but they can help to reduce the rate of spread and assist in bringing the fire under control,” Mr Maxwell said. Autumn was a good time to burn public land.
“We are aware that seeing smoke will cause some anxiety for people, especially those affected by the recent bushfires, and we ask the community for their patience and tolerance throughout our autumn burning.”
DSE plans burns with local communities and stakeholders through its Fire Operations Plans, which are reviewed annually. The plans can be viewed at www.dse.vic.gov.au
For information about planned burns, fire restrictions and campfires, call the Victorian Bushfire Information Line on 1800 240 667.
