LOCAL theatre group the Gemco Players is preparing a feast for Samuel Beckett fans.
The group is hosting the famous playwright festival from 15 to 24 April.
In this festival of Samuel Beckett plays, the audience will be treated to a potent collection of significant works including Play, Endgame, All that Fall, Happy Days, Come and Go, and Not I.
This selection presents Beckett, an Irish playwright in many aspects, and displays his wide-ranging ideas set with powerful verbal images and a minimum of distracting stage effects.
“All That Fall” was originally a play for BBC radio, and has been adapted for the stage especially for this festival.
“Waiting for Godot” one of his well-known works, which displays a bare tree and a mound, telling long philosophical arguments with consistent references to vaudeville sketches.
“All that Fall” mocks belief in redemption and scripture, but never ventures too far into denial. His characters struggle but survive, trapped in their personalities and with no hope of escape.
In “Play”, he images the end of the world, not in a great fiery cataclysm, but in a small room.
The festival will see six plays performed over seven nights and a matinee.
Tickets are $15 for concession and $12 for group. The festival will be held at the Gemco Hall, Kilvington Drive Emerald. Tickets are limited. Phone 0411 723 530 for bookings.
