A CONNECTION with Nar Nar Goon Primary spanning four generations has prompted a former student to preserve some of the school’s history.
Jason Downes is about to transform an old weatherboard school building into a museum to showcase the school’s former students.
The two-classroom building was to be demolished as part of Nar Nar Goon Primary School’s $4.4 million makeover, but Mr Downes stepped in to ensure it was preserved.
The Downes family has its own history with Nar Nar Goon Primary School – Jason, his father Keith and grandfather Roy attended, and now his children Emily and Katelyn go there.
“I thought it would be a shame to see it knocked down,” he said.
“I’m going to set it up as a museum. I hope to get some local families to donate some photos and have records of kids who have been there over the years.”
The museum will be located near the roundabout at the Nar Nar Goon town entrance. And it won’t be too long before the relocation takes place.
“It’s on the move – it has to be out of the school by the end of school holidays,” Mr Downes said.
