Swamp bus link is on the way

SPRING Street is on track to deliver bus services between Kooweerup and Pakenham by November.
A State Government spokesman this week told the Gazette two rounds of workshops with “key transport stakeholders” had taken place and buses would be on the road on time.
Last May, the State Government announced it would invest $14.7 million to improve public transport services in Bass Coast, South Gippsland and Cardinia, including a new bus connection between Pakenham and Kooweerup.
It promised service improvements would be rolled out over the following 18 months.
“When we announced the project we stated it would take up to 18 months to deliver improvements, as we would need to complete a thorough review of services and needs, and consult with community stakeholders,” the spokesman said.
“This project is progressing and we are looking forward to delivering terrific improvements that deliver more services, more often. We’ve just had the second round of workshops with key public transport stakeholders and in October we had public hearings in Kooweerup, Leongatha, Wonthaggi and Yarram.”
The State Government has until November to introduce the bus connection.
