BAYLES Country Fire Authority has held its first Thank You Day for volunteers who assisted after the Black Saturday fires.
The weather on 5 April at the Bayles Fire Station was what everyone had been praying for only weeks before.
“It poured,” said organiser Dinah Huyskens. “But we achieved our goal, which was to say thanks.”
An array of utility vehicles from clubs such as Caterpillar Cowboys, B&S, and High Country Ute Club paraded in front of a delighted crowd.
Adding to the fun, the animal farm and face painting were popular activities, along with a sausage sizzle and free fairy floss.
Some brave youngsters took to the dunking machine, proving it was warmer in the water than out.
Volunteers, community groups and residents provided the activities. A silent auction and fundraising activities raised over $2000.
“This activity has been a great success, and a celebration of the way the community has really pulled together since the bushfires, CFA captain Karleen Elledge said. “That is one high point that we can all celebrate. We definitely will be doing this every year from now on.”
