Judges start work

JUDGES have begun assessing the merits of 33 entries for this year’s Cardinia Business Awards.
The judging panel of nine has been drawn from the public and private sector.
All are experts in small business, including Maureen Griffiths, from the Department of Marketing at Monash University who is assessing the promotional efforts of the entrants.
Masterpiece Consultants’ Debbie Brownlie, a previous Cardinia Business Awards winner, joined the judging panel this year and said she was keen to see the business systems entrants had in place.
Some entrants found putting themselves in the running for the awards helpful.
First-time entrant, Raelene Charabie from Craft Quarters in Kooweerup said she had to review her recent achievements and assess her risk management when entering.
“It was really beneficial to re-evaluate our plans to ensure they were still on track,” she said.
The judges will visit each business chosen as a finalist and the winners of the Cardinia Business Awards 2009 will be announced at a gala Presentation Dinner on 8 May.
Olympic gold medallist Brooke Hanson will be the guest speaker.
The dinner is an opportunity for the community to show support for local businesses and enjoy a three course dinner of local produce.
For bookings call Frances Grigoriou on 5945 0402. For details: 1300 787 624.
