Berwick v Beaconsfield
Saturday, 3pm at Edwin Flack Reserve (Melway ref: 111, H7).
@BT Sub Sport Gaz:STRENGTHS
Berwick: The Wickers have a new forward set up and it has worked well this year. Limiting Grant Noonan, Jason Heath and David Van Diemen could be a real battle for the Eagles.
Beaconsfield: It’s probably not fair to single him out after one round, but assistant coach Andrew Williams is the Eagles’ strength. If ‘Hottie’ is hot, Beaconsfield seldom loses.
@BT Sub Sport Gaz:QUESTION MARKS
Berwick: While the Wickers win over Devon Meadows was encouraging, just how good that form-line is will be tested this week. Will the new-look Berwick team be able to turn it on against a better opponent?
Beaconsfield: Can the Eagles rise to the occasion and win their opening away game? There is little doubt that Beaconsfield has improved this year, but by how much is the question.
@BT Sub Sport Gaz:X-FACTORS
Berwick: Grant Noonan. How many sides have defenders that can nullify strong marking, six-foot-six inch, 120 kilogram full-forwards who have already got more than 100 goals in a season to their name?
Beaconsfield: He made a relatively quiet debut last weekend, but if Lochlan Oakley flicks the ‘on- button’ this Saturday, Berwick had better look out. The former Sandringham star is all class and due to kick a bag of goals.
@BT Sub Sport Gaz:VERDICT
The Edwin Flack Reserve has sorted out plenty of potential finalists and this season’s first ‘Battle-of-the-Creek’ match will be no exception. The Wickers proved last week that they will be no easy-beats this season, but the Eagles class edge should ensure another four premiership points is added to their tally.
