A SLIP in vealer quality last week at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, saw their average price ease 10 cents to 167.8 cents and the top price of recent sales did not return, although the 233 cents for the top vealer was maybe down on what the quality of the pen showed.
Fifty bullocks yarded fared best, easing only slightly to 155.6 cents and reached 172 cents as a top price, 85 heifers of lighter quality made to 174.2 and also slipped marginally by four cents to 142.5 cents.
The average price of 187 steers yarded retreated three cents to 157.6 cents but the top end sold to strong demand reaching 211.6 cents.
Four hundred and fifty two vealers were offered and as mentioned quality was a big factor in the price, with vendors unable to finish a lot of them due to the dry conditions, best vealer made 233 cents.
On Thursday 27 bulls saw demand drop off slightly and eased 12 cents to 133.7 cents to sell for a top of 157.6 cents.
In a larger than usual yarding due to the Easter break, 726 cows were offered and their price slipped 12 cents also to 108.9 cents and reached a top of 152.6 cents.
