Taylor Knows the movies

By Jade Lawton
THE BRIGHT lights of Hollywood beckon for pint-sized Berwick entertainer, Taylor Robinson.
Taylor, fresh from a speaking role in the science fiction movie called Knowing, which stars Nicolas Cage, has just pressed a CD of eight original songs and is preparing to audition for another two feature films in the next few weeks.
Many aspiring performers would envy Taylor’s accomplished career – especially considering she has achieved all this in just nine years.
In Knowing, Taylor plays Dawn Jackson, a student in the 1950s. She is visible for the first five minutes of the film and says four words – ‘Thank you Miss Taylor.’
“It was weird: it was like they were speaking to me,” Taylor said.
Taylor’s father, Paul, chaperoned his daughter on set and said she was privy to some special star treatment.
“It was a great few days. We would go to wardrobe first and then we had to walk to a hall for breakfast – it was about 20 metres, but all these helpers would come over with umbrellas and curtains to keep the wind off her,” he said.
“When we got to the breakfast hall, Taylor would go to one half with bacon and eggs, while the parents would go to the other half for cornflakes.”
The film received mixed reviews but her dad Paul, gave it two thumbs up.
“We went and saw it twice. It was a bit embarrassing because mum and dad were going ‘Oh look!’ When I was on, but we would have seen it anyway because dad likes it,” Taylor said.
Taylor didn’t attend the premiere of the film – “No, they didn’t invite me,” she said – but the Hollywood bigwigs may have made a mistake.
“I would like to go to Hollywood for a few movies … I want to be a performer.”
