AFTER almost a decade wallowing down at the rear of the ladder, Hastings has bounced back to its best under coach and former Collingwood player Tyson Lane to sit on top of the Nepean league ladder after four rounds.
The Blues underlined their resurgence with an eight-goal win over Tyabb on the weekend, led by four majors from Lane and Steve Raspin.
Rye defeated Rosebud by 21 points in their traditional derby, while Crib Point had a solid 38-point victory over lowly Somerville. Dromana proved too strong for Pearcedale despite a five-goal haul from Panther spearhead Kerem Baskaya.
Gary Carpenter and Jack Besley were strong in the clinches, but the Panthers were plagued by inconsistency and disappointing overall.
In the other round four game Sorrento had a 10-goal victory over a disappointing Frankston. Seaford cruised back to the top of the Peninsula league ladder with a resounding 71-point win over neighbours Bonbeach at the tiny Seaford Road oval.
Joe Hallal and Tim Smith booted five goals apiece in outstanding displays for the undefeated Tigers.
Chelsea upset Mt Eliza by 12 points after an evenly contested affair. Three telling goals to Robbie Lancaster proved the difference for the Seagulls.
Karingal pole-axed Peninsula league newcomers Langwarrin by 121 points to jump to second position, while Mornington did a similar job to cellar-dwellers Pines.
The final game saw Frankston YCW get over the top of 2008 grand finalists Edithvale-Aspendale by 35 points.
