CFA set for new station

FIREFIGHTERS in Emerald will soon have a new home.
Civic leaders last week gave the CFA the green light to develop a new station on Emerald-Monbulk Road.
The facility – to house three tankers – will replace the existing station on Belgrave-Gembrook Road.
Cardinia Shire councillor Ed Chatwin said a new station was overdue.
He said the existing station, built in 1973, was only big enough for one prime mover.
The station will include a multi-purpose room, workshop, storerooms, kitchen, toilets, office, pergola, a 16,000L water tank and a hose tower.
Eight people had objected to the proposal, citing concerns about traffic congestion, vehicle headlights at night, noise from sirens and vehicles, and effects on property valuation. Some said the station would be too close to adjacent houses.
Cr Chatwin said most of the objectors’ concerns had been addressed, apart from the location.
The Emerald fire brigade has about 30 active members, with an average of 10 responding to emergency calls.
