More and more step into fitness

STEP Into Life has jumped its way to success, winning this year’s Franchised Business Award for helping Pakenham residents get fit outdoors.
Since September 2007, residents have sweated it out on the Pakenham Secondary College oval during group outdoor personal training offered by Pakenham’s Step Into Life program, instructed by Jason McLachlan.
Step into Life began in Melbourne in 1995, by directors and founders Mary and Larry Cohen. Since then, Step in Life has grown to over 150 venues across Australia, including 50 venues around Victoria.
There are over 50 members from Pakenham and surrounds involved in the local program.
“In the first month of the program, we only had about 15 members,” Mr McLachlan said.
“We are continuing to grow as the community grows.”
Thirteen training sessions are offered to members every week.
The sessions include cardiovascular, toning, fitball, kickboxing, bootcamp, rubberised resistance, and power flex.
“We offer members a variety of options to keep them motivated and challenged,” he said.
“It’s great because they get to have a personal trainer with them every session, they get to socialise with the group and have ongoing support.” Exercising outdoors also maximises members’ fitness sessions, Mr McLachlan said
“It’s great because we get fresh air and the weather has to be really bad for a session to get cancelled.
“There is more effect on your body if it is cold,” he said.
Mr McLachlan said he hoped by the end of the year, Step Into Life will have more than 100 members determined get fit or stay healthy.
