Police cop it sweet

By Melissa Grant
The new station will be bigger and better than the existing one, which was built in 1986.
It will also have a greater street profile and boast interview rooms, muster rooms and a garage.
Sergeant Kevin Iles of Kooweerup Police said his team was excited about getting larger premises.
“It only consists of a couple of rooms – a lot of them are combined,” he said.
“With the requirements of the job you really do need that extra space.
“It’s great news.”
Sgt Iles said the station’s police members were yet to see any plans, but hoped to be part of the consultation process.
Toomuc CFA was the other big winner in the State Budget from Cardinia. The brigade will receive a new heavy tanker as part of a $21 million CFA fleet replacement program.
“This brigade played a key role in the February bushfires and this additional tanker will greatly improve the capacity of the brigade to fight bushfires,” Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato said.
Other projects in Cardinia Shire to be funded in the 2009/10 State Budget were:
– $500,000 allocated to the Holm Park Road Recreation Reserve Project, Beaconsfield. The facility, which will cost $5.65 million, will feature three recreation ovals, four cricket practice nets, two sports pavilions and four netball courts.
– $20,000 for a feasibility study for a motorsports recreation and education park. The proposed regional facility will feature a main circuit, world-class karting circuit and a driver training skid pan. If given the go-ahead, the facility will generate more than $5 million a year and prove employment for 60 people.
– Additional bus services, with $55 million allocated to the Metropolitan Bus Improvements Program.
A bus review of the Cardinia area took place last year and specific announcements will be made at a later date.
