RACING returned to Pakenham on Saturday with the Pakenham Racing Club hosting its annual family day.
The club has been busy in recent weeks holding meets originally scheduled for Geelong but it got back to its fixture on the weekend, and local trainers again featured in the results.
Drouin’s Kellie Hill claimed the Pakenham Gazette Handicap with Sovereign Toy, nosing out Brian Jenkins’ Rescheduled and Jason Warren’s Adder Boy on the line.
The seven-year-old grey gelding recorded his best result in the 1400 metre race, following a pair of average results in recent weeks.
Cranbourne trainer Nikki Burke collected a win in the race five Schweppes Handicap, with jockey Mark Flaherty riding Rubijack to a convincing win.
Rubijack was favourite heading into the race and the six-year-old gelding did not disappoint, picking up his first win since October 2007 by two lengths from Patrick Payne’s Scarlet Romance.
Lang Lang trainer Dianne Clover had less luck in the race, with her horse Rapid Thrill crossing the line in sixth.
Flaherty picked up a double on the day, also winning the Cardinia Club Maiden Plate on Hammer Trigger, along with a second and a third with King of Piano and Adder Boy respectively.
