CARDINIA Shire Council officers are encouraging residents to clean up around their homes with a free hard and green waste collection just weeks away.
Collection will take place over five weeks in May and June.
The first instalment of this twice-yearly free service begins in the week of Monday 25 May for residents whose regular waste collection day is Monday.
Council’s Environmental Health Services Co-ordinator David Esmore said collection areas would be grouped by collection days to make it easier for residents to plan for their hard and green waste pick-up.
“From one week before the scheduled collection date for their area, residents can leave up to two cubic metres of hard and bundled green waste on their nature strip for collection,” he said.
Items which can be left out for collection include scrap metal, furniture, mattresses, small car parts and whitegoods.
Trees branches of less than 1.5 metres long and 15 centimetres in diameter will also be collected but must be tied in small bundles. Untied branches will not be collected.
Residents are requested to place green waste, mattresses, scrap metal and remaining hard waste in separate piles.
Items that will not be collected include batteries, asbestos sheeting, chemicals, large car parts, tyres, gas bottles, car springs and any other dangerous materials.
Collection dates are: Monday 25 May to Friday 29 May for residents whose garbage is collected on Mondays, Monday 1 June to Friday 5 June for Tuesday collections, Tuesday 9 June to Friday 12 June for Wednesday collections, Monday 15 June to Friday 19 June for Thursday collections and Monday 22 June to Friday 26 June for Friday collections.
Residents whose waste isn’t collected by the end of their designated week are urged to advise the council’s contractor WM Waste Management Services on 9721 1915.
