Cardinia’s Leigh is named Young Engineer of the Year

CARDINIA Shire Council’s Leigh Shera-Jones has been named Young Engineer of the Year.
The Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia (IPWEA) presented Mr Shera-Jones with the award.
The 24-year-old began his engineering career at Cardinia Shire Council as a graduate in October 2007.
The IPWEA Young Engineer of the Year award recognises the outstanding achievement by a young engineer in the year of nomination.
Mr Shera-Jones worked as project manager on the $3 million construction and sealing of 12 kilometres of Gembrook –Tonimuk Road, an achievement which caught the judges’ attention.
The project was delivered on budget and a full year ahead of schedule.
Mr Shera-Jones, a project engineer, said he was honoured to accept the award.
“It is really great to receive an honour like this from fellow engineers who have a lot of experience,” he said.
Cardinia Shire General Manager of Assets and Services Michael Ellis said Mr Shera-Jones had demonstrated exceptional maturity and ability in his chosen career path.
‘The complexity of the major projects Leigh has been involved in, is far beyond what would normally be expected from a graduate, but Leigh has got the job done,” he said.
Leigh is also part of a team working on the council’s $500,000 water sensitive urban design project with Melbourne Water in Nobelius Heritage Park, Emerald, which is due to open in July.
