On the trail of wildlife

ANIMAL enthusiasts can learn how to be a wildlife detective as part of a coming community workshop and bus tour on Saturday 13 June.
They will discover how to look for tracks and other animal traces, as well as using more sophisticated techniques such as infra-red cameras and hair-tube traps.
The Cardinia Environment Coalition (CEC) will host a workshop at which participants will make their own set of hair tubes and then visit a number of Landcare properties to learn how to set the traps and collect the hair samples.
At the properties, those taking part will search for signs of wildlife and identify any birds they may come across under the guidance of seasoned wildlife detectives.
The day begins at 9.30am and finishes at 1.30pm with a barbecue lunch.
The bus will leave the Toomuc Valley Hall, Leppitt Road, Pakenham Upper. Participants must park along the side of the road.
People are encouraged to bring binoculars, raincoat, umbrella, beanie and sturdy footwear.
Bookings are essential and can be made by calling the CEC office on 5941 8446, or by emailing Sarah Maclagan at smaclagan_cec@dcsi.net.au by 8 June.
