Saving liquid gold

By Bridget Cook
After being in the engineering and construction industry for about 18 years, it was two experiences that prompted Mr Ashe to set up a business focussing on using resources already at our disposal; wind, earth, water and solar.
He remembers as a child being able to run under the sprinklers in the back yard, when water was never a problem.
Now a father of four, Mr Ashe said his children just don’t get the opportunity to do that.
However, Mr Ashe said it really hit home when Garfield experienced a number of blackouts.
“If Garfield was to go down, we just don’t have systems to keep things up and running,” he said.
It was through these realisations that Mr Ashe, a new member of the Gazette’s Green Army, began to look at more sustainable solutions, so these resources could be directly at hand.
At the start of this year, Mr Ashe kicked off his business Urban Synergy Constructions which, at the moment, focuses on the installation of water tanks, structural water features, dams, ponds, irrigation, garden systems, house protective sprinklers, solar hot water systems and micro earthworks.
In the future he is hoping to expand to include the use solar and wind power as a source of energy.
“I want a business where I can tie in all things sustainable,” he said.
Mr Ashe said he was hoping to help people be more accountable for their own resources.
“There seems to be a perception that going green is expensive and a luxury item,” he said.
“But people can basically start with DIY installations and if budget permits can go to more extravagant systems, which have bigger savings.”
“The average person can find more sustainable solutions.”
