Arts policy

CARDINIA Shire Council is encouraging members of the community to attend free events to help celebrate the launch of its first Arts and Culture Policy and Public Art Policy.
The policies will be launched at the end of June and to celebrate, several arts events will follow in the weeks after.
Councillor Ed Chatwin, the chair of the Arts and Culture reference group, said it was vital to have a framework to support arts and culture.
“Arts and culture enrich people’s lives and these policies will help artistic and cultural events and activities to thrive locally,” he said.
“Arts and culture is important to community well-being, our economy and our future.”
Cr Chatwin encouraged residents to attend the free events which include:
Figatroll, a story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff performed by the Opera School of Melbourne. Figatroll will be held during the school holidays for one show only on Tuesday 30 June at 10.30am at the Cardinia Cultural Centre, Pakenham. For bookings call the Cardinia Cultural Centre on 1300 887 624.
Grant Writing for the Arts, a workshop presented by the Arts Management Advisory Group. It is designed to assist arts practitioners, groups and event organisers wanting to write a competitive grant application. Grant Writing for the Arts will be held at the Cardinia Cultural Centre, Pakenham on Thursday 2 July, from 6–8.30pm and at the Emerald Library on Tuesday 7 July, from 6–8.30pm.
Places for all events are strictly limited and bookings are essential. To RSVP your attendance to Grant Writing for the Arts, or to receive a copy of the Policy, available end June, call the council’s Cultural Development Unit on 1300 787 624.
