LONG time community leader Ian Chisholm has let the cat out of the bag over a plan to develop a community facility on land between Langmore Lane and High Street, Berwick.
I have been stewing over this one for weeks because it was seriously under wraps and I could not write about it because the information came to me through another position I hold.
Perhaps I have a conflict of interest.
But the plan Mr Chisholm mentioned in a letter to the editor last week involves redevelopment of the Berwick RSL and the Senior Citizens halls so he knows about it.
So should the community, before a major developer gets hold of the concept and wrecks the place.
I was absolutely impressed with initial plans that I saw nearly three months ago because both halls, although they have served well over the years, are tired, too small, and past their use-by date.
Access to the development would be from High Street.
The proposal and thinking was based very much on community benefit and would include an extensive underground car parking facility, something desperately needed in the village.
Opportunity exists in this case to conduct community workshops over a significant period to decide the best design for a facility on that precious tract of land.
