CASEY Council has rejected an application for another retirement village at 100 Grices Road, Berwick.
A proposal for a 409-unit retirement village including facilities such as lawn bowls, gymnasium, tennis court, pool and golf putting area was denied at a 23 June Casey planning meeting.
It was recommended that council not support the application as it did not fit with the Berwick South Development Plan, lacked landscaping and wetland areas, and was isolated from public transport, among other reasons.
Council’s community services department said resident-funded retirement villages did not increase the range of housing options for older Casey residents, especially those on lower incomes.
Berwick is already home to five retirement villages.
The developer, Orchard View Village Unit Trust, has lodged an appeal with VCAT.
