Keeping up with the rallies

RALLIES are coming through thick and fast now with the Number 9 Trial on 30 May held around Dunolly.
Director Dave Smith backed off on the degree of difficulty with the navigation to attract a few more competitors and gave the drivers a few stages to keep them happy as well.
It seems to have worked a treat, as there was nothing but praise for the event.
Alan Upton/Mark Laidley won the event in a Datsun Bluebird (1600) and Matt Fenner/Stuart Blegg in their Range Rover finished 17th out of 35 starters.
The next event for the Pakenham Auto Club crews was the Bega Valley Rally on the Queen’s birthday weekend in June. For Victorians it was round 2 of the Victorian Rally Championship, an opportunity to see how Victorians compared with the NSW and ACT crews.
Of the 57 starters for the long course, 26 crews made the trek from Victoria and of the 15 crews that did not finish, only seven were from Victoria. Of those Victorian crews, nine were from PAC.
The following results are for the VRC component of the Bega Event.
1. Mark Fawcett/Carrie Morris in a Subaru WRX; 2. Ross Allan/ Scott Allan (PAC) in a Subaru Legacy; 3. Warren Lee/ David Lethlean in a Lancer Evo2; 4. David Nutter/ Catherine Taylor (PAC), WRX.
On 20 June 20 it was the second round of the Victorian Club Rally Series with the Nissan Nightmoves. Five PAC crews went up to Rushworth and while there was some rain it wasn’t as bad as they expected.
Car 1 was Andrew Bell/ Ari Paterson in a 1983 Datsun Bluebird and car 2 was Brian Semmens/Dan Parry in a Nissan 200sx RV and they finished in that order on the night with Paul Mahoney/Luke Read in a Mitsubishi Starion third.
First PAC crew home were Alan Upton/Mark Laidley in Datsun Skyline who were eighth. The only other PAC crew to finish was Mark Attwood/Rich-ard Clough who finished 32nd. The Commodore of Adam Bloomfield/Kimberley Barson broke its gearbox, Kylie Evans/Jenny Cole bent the front end of their Subaru RS and the alternator bracket broke on the Escort of Phil Hurle/Scott Allan.
The next event will be the Ivan’s Folly on 4 July run by the Peugeot Car Club. It is a novice event and well worth having a go with about 100km competitive, central service and 800m transport in the same forest as the Nightmoves. Supplementary Regulations are available at vicrally.com.au but be quick as only 25 crews are allowed to run.
