Prices shoot with high demand

THE high demand for cattle over recent months has managed to help lift prices on all categories this week at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, as supplies in northern states start to ease.
Thirty one bullocks made to 184 cents and rose 16 cents on average to 170.6. Seventy six heifers climbed four cents to 157.2 and reached a good top price of 184.6, 163 steers containing some pen lots of good quality steers rose eight cents to 171.4 and made 205 the top price. Four hundred and twenty one vealers yarded and regained some ground on recent top prices reaching 238 cents, good light store steers penned sold strongly to re-stockers and feedlots, vealer average rose five cents to 184.2.
Higher prices continued on Thursday with bulls averaging six cents dearer at 146.9 and top bull made 170.2. Eight bullocks were sold and reached 174.6 to average 157.6, 408 cows also climbed on average, rising 7.5 cents to 128.6 and made to 178.2.
