EXTRA parking near the Pakenham town centre is a step closer, with the old police station site on James Street set to be rezoned.
The site and adjoining piece of land at 80 Main Street are now surplus government land so the Department of Treasury and Finance wants the land to be rezoned for sale.
The Cardinia Shire Council has previously resolved to seek to buy the site for extra parking in the Pakenham town centre.
Council officers have been having discussions with the Department of Treasury and Finance about buying the land.
Civic leaders on Monday night resolved to request Planning Minister Justin Madden to rezone 39 James Street to a Business 2 zone and 80 Main Street to a Business 1 zone.
