Not so in the case of new Lions Club of Pakenham president Jean Butler, who took the role from son Graham Cockerell at the club’s changeover on 5 July.
Keeping the affair in the family, Mrs Butler was inducted by her brother, past district governor Les Noseda from the Apollo Bay Lions Club.
Among those present to witness the occasion were Jean’s husband Ron, who is also a Lions member at Pakenham, brother Arthur, daughters-in-law Jackie and Jeanette, eldest son Peter, and grand-daughter Lauren.
In accepting her new appointment Jean said she wondered what her mother Vera would have thought. Vera Noseda was a long time Lions club member at Apollo Bay with Jean’s brother Les. All who knew her were sure she would have been “tickled pink”.
At the changeover, held at the Pakenham Golf Club, the Lions went over the donations for this financial year, which included $500 each to Toomuc Valley CFA, Officer CFA, the CFA junior running team, and the 4Cs food bank.
