PEDESTRIAN safety should come before business.
That’s the view of Mama Rosa owner Rosa Santo who has welcomed the council’s footpath trading code.
Ms Santo said it was about time the council did something to make it easier for pedestrians to walk up and down Pakenham’s Main Street.
“You should put people before business,” she said.
“I feel sorry for people in wheelchairs – there’s not enough space.”
While some business owners don’t like the prospect of moving tables, chairs and trestles 1.5 metres away from their shop front, Ms Santo said she had no problems with the changes.
“I’m proud that the council is doing something about this,” she said.
