WORK will soon get underway on a Men’s Shed that will provide a valuable social outlet for the Bunyip community.
Hillview Aged Care Bunyip has been successful in its application for a $47,500 State Government grant to fund the shed’s construction.
The grant will cover part of the infrastructure costs for the 12 by 12-metre shed.
The community will contribute to the fit-out of the shed which will offer woodwork and metalwork as well as provide social activities for local men.
The shed will be built in conjunction with the Villa Unit development at Hillview and will include toilet and shower facilities.
Hillview lifestyle assistant Roman Kulkewycz said Men’s Sheds played a significant role in tackling problems associated with men’s health, particularly isolation, loneliness and depression.
“Men’s Sheds can help connect men with their communities and mainstream society and at the same time act as a catalyst in stimulating their community’s economic activities,” he said.
Retired local plumber and Hillview Board member John Marsh will manage the Men’s Shed.
Anyone who can donate unwanted tools can contact Christine on 5629 5853 or Alan on 5629 2238.
