Trained to park

BERWICK commuters can look forward to easier parking at the Berwick Railway Station next year, with work to start on 209 new car spaces late next month.
Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato said the lack of parking at the train station was one of the issues raised most often by local residents.
This month in Parliament Ms Lobato called for the spaces to be built as soon as possible.
“It is very encouraging that people are using public transport more frequently but unfortunately people are sometimes put off because they cannot find a space to park their cars,” she said.
“A couple of years ago, the State Government funded the construction of around 200 car parking spaces at Berwick station, but as soon as they were built, the spaces filled up. The recent sealing of the car park at Beaconsfield station was also widely welcomed but those spaces also filled up immediately.”
“There is still a need for more car spaces, as outlined in the Victorian transport plan, and I am thrilled that those spaces will now begin construction with works scheduled to commence in late July.”
Ms Lobato said that tenders for the project were currently being evaluated.
“These extra spaces will better accommodate the needs of transport users who depart from Berwick station and will be eagerly awaited by the community,” she said.
