Kooweerup is the new bus hub

KOOWEERUP will become a major bus and coach interchange point for the Gippsland region from Sunday, with 146 weekly services converging at the swamp.
Connections at Kooweerup will be provided to and from towns such as Yarram, Foster, Fish Creek, Meeniyan, Leongatha, Korumburra, Nyora, Cape Paterson, Cowes, San Remo, Grantville, Coronet Bay and Corinella.
There are many new services, which will be launched as the State Government rolls out Stage One of its $14.7 million South Gippsland Bus and Coach improvement package.
Express services will also run between Kooweerup and Melbourne, reducing travel time by up to 49 minutes.
Eastern Victoria MP Johan Scheffer said the improvements had been developed after feedback from community and stakeholder workshops.
“More frequent services and better connections between towns is what people have asked for, and that is exactly what we are delivering,” he said.
“This is what people in the region have been saying will bring the most benefit, providing crucial access to employment, health and social opportunities.”
The second round of improvements will be introduced later this year, including a new connection between Kooweerup and Pakenham.
A Department of Transport spokesperson said passenger amenities, including toilets and baby change facilities, would also be upgraded at the Kooweerup interchange by the year’s end.
