Match of the day at a glance

Beaconsfield v Berwick
Saturday, 2.15pm at Perc Allison Oval

Beaconsfield: It’s backs-against-the-wall stuff for the Eagles this weekend. If ever a team must steel itself and pay back the loyalty of its coach, the Battle of the Creek is the game to do it.

Berwick: It’s going to take a supreme effort to keep both the Wickers key forwards Jason Heath and Grant Noonan in check at the Eagles’ small ground.

Beaconsfield: Simple – how mentally shot are the Eagles after last weekend’s loss to Keysborough?

Berwick: Can the Wickers maintain their extraordinary work rate? They are due for a down game.

Beaconsfield: Chris Kelf is almost back to his best in the ruck and has won more than one game for his side off his own boot.

Berwick: He’s carried the side in the big-man department for several seasons and David VanDiemen is enjoying having a few others around to take the heat off this year.

This is always a hard-fought game with district bragging rights on the line.
The Eagles are the rank underdogs for the first time in a long time, so they will have nothing to lose.
Having said that, on form, there is no logical reason to tip the Eagles.
