CELLAR-dwellers Pines won its third Peninsula League match for 2009 with a seven-point upset of Mornington at the Eric Bell Reserve on Saturday.
The Pythons were led to victory by Jon Edwards who booted five goals in a great performance in tough conditions.
Seaford downed Bonbeach by 31 points, thanks to a best-on-ground effort from MPNFL interleague star Chris Irving, while second-placed Mt Eliza had a 50-point result over a disappointing Chelsea combination.
In other games Karingal defeated Langwarrin by 50 points and Frankston YCW held off a fast-finishing Edithvale-Aspendale to win by six points.
Rye provided the upset result of round 13 in Nepean League with a solid 23-point victory over Sorrento.
Demons’ AFL recruit Greg Stafford was a rock in the big-man department all day, while former Richmond team-mate Mark Chaffey also saw plenty of the ball.
Pearcedale continued its recent winning streak with a 61-point belting of Tyabb, while Crib Point scored its third win of the season by 25 points at the expense of bottom side Red Hill.
In the other two games of the round, top side Dromana defeated Rosebud by 26 points and Frankston had no troubles against Somerville, winning by 55 points with plenty in hand.
