Broadbent

MCMILLAN MP Russell Broadbent has been preselected unopposed to contest the seat for the Liberal Party at the next federal election.
Mr Broadbent was the only nomination for McMillan, an electorate which includes the areas of Pakenham, Warragul to Wilsons Promontory, when Liberal Party preselections closed on Tuesday 30 June.
Mr Broadbent is hoping to be elected for a third consecutive term. The seat has had a tumultuous history, with voters ditching the incumbent in six of the seven elections since 1990.
Mr Broadbent won the seat in 1996, lost it in 1998, and won it back again in 2004 for the first time under the present boundaries. He was re-elected in 2007.
Following the close of pre-selection, Mr Broadbent said he appreciated the strong demonstration of support by the Liberal Party despite some difficult periods.
