Closet drinker

A TYNONG man was found by police cowering in a closet at his home after he fled a booze bus in Pakenham on Friday night.
The 25-year-old was tested by police on the corner of Racecourse Road and Princes Highway at 7.48pm, and recorded a positive alcohol reading.
Sergeant Nigel Atkins, of Cardinia’s Traffic Management Unit, said that when police requested the man’s licence, he drove off at high speed. “Police jumped aside to avoid injury,” Sgt Atkins said. “The driver was pursued to his home, where he was located hiding in a closet like a scared rabbit. He was subsequently arrested and interviewed at Pakenham Police Station.”
The man has been charged with reckless conduct, assaulting police, failure to accompany police for a breath test, disqualified driving, exceeding the speed limit and evading police. His will face Dandenong Magistrates’ Court at a later date. Sergeant Atkins said that about 30 seconds after the pursuit started for the above driver, another local male recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.178.
“If you drink and drive, you will be caught,” Sgt Atkins said.
