A GALA auction night has seen $4500 raised for the 2009 Tom Quilty Gold Cup.
The fund-raiser, held on 11 July at the Cardinia Cultural Centre, was jam-packed with prizes and entertainment, in the lead-up to the internationally renowned event which is coming to Tonimbuk in September.
It featured live band Cover It, magician Warren Jackman and several guest speakers including Australian Endurance Riders Association (AERA) vice-president Matthew Krahnen.
Tonimbuk Tom Quilty Gold Cup event director Lissy Verity said the night was entertaining.
“The night was a great success with 120 people attending. It was great to see everyone come out and support such an important local event,” Ms Verity said.
“We are planning full steam ahead for the 2009 Tom Quilty Gold Cup at Tonimbuk from 14–21 September. We encourage local businesses and the community to get behind us and help make this year’s ‘Quilty’ the best ever.”
Cardinia Shire Council is supporting the event, a classic test of strength and skill as riders from around Australia and overseas compete to finish a 160km ride in 24 hours – Australia’s biggest endurance ride.
