Walker stars in VCFL win

PAKENHAM star Luke Walker won the medal for best afield in the VCFL senior team’s exciting win over the VAFA (A and B sections) at the Junction Oval on Sunday.
The country side won the Brian Molony and Challenge Cup with the four-point result in good conditions.
Walker was at his elusive best all day as the VCFL senior team pegged back a 30-point deficit in the last quarter to win the match with the last kick of the day in a stirring team performance.
Dave Clark from Corowa-Rutherglen took a strong pack mark 35 metres out from goal in the dying moments of the game. The siren sounded as the ball passed through the goals to notch up the four-point win.
The game was level pegging at half-time with 52 points apiece.
The VAFA came out with the wind and superior teamwork in the third quarter to post what seemed to be an unassailable 22-point lead, but VCFL coach Peter Knights implored his team to give everything in the last quarter and the VCFL came through.
In a quarter that ebbed and flowed, the VCFL overcame a slow start to get moving with 15 minutes to go and used quick ball movement into the forward line with accurate finishing to steal the game.
Walker was joined among the better players by two other MPNFL players in Seaford midfielder Chris Irving and Dromana captain Adam Hunter.
