PEARCEDALE coach Jason Chapple made a comeback to the field in Nepean League on Saturday, booting two goals in his side’s 84-point belting of lowly Rosebud.
The former interleague rover was named among the Panthers’ best, along with former VFL star Chris O’Dell and veteran playmaker Shane Urbans.
Dromana made a 107-point mess of bottom side Red Hill, led by Paul Minchington with five goals, while Sorrento also had an easy day with a 56-point result over Hastings.
The other two matches in a one-sided round saw Rye account for Crib Point by 67 points and Tyabb defeat Somerville by 28 points.
In a likely Peninsula League grand final preview on the weekend, top side Seaford proved too strong for Frankston YCW in a low-scoring battle of attrition.
The Tigers could not shake off the determined Stonecats, but finally triumphed by 12 points, thanks largely to the best-on-ground effort of MPNFL midfielder Chris Irving.
The other highlight of the round was Bonbeach’s continued good late-season form with a convincing 55-point victory over Pines with former AFL big man Ben Holland booting five goals.
In other games Mt Eliza downed Karingal by 56 points, Edithvale-Aspendale belted Langwarrin by 69 points and Chelsea scored an 18-point win over Mornington.
