PAKENHAM Police caught a man driving sideways around a roundabout, another driving drunk on the wrong side of the highway, and a learner motorcyclist with a pillion passenger speeding nearly 25km/h over the limit on the weekend.
Pakenham Police Acting Senior Sergeant Phil Delaney said a tip-off from another motorist helped police catch a drunken man driving on the Princes Highway at 11.30pm on Saturday.
Police intercepted a white van after somebody reported seeing the van driving on the wrong side of the road, driven by somebody who ‘looked drunk.’
The tip-off proved correct, with the 26-year-old Pakenham man driving the vehicle recording a blood alcohol reading of .177, more than three times the legal limit.
His licence was immediately suspended.
At 1.45am Sunday, police caught an 18-year-old man from Brit Brit, west of Hamilton, driving sideways around the John and Main Street roundabout.
“He lost traction and was intercepted before his vehicle was impounded. It also had two bald back tyres,” Act Sgt Delaney said.
Later that day, at 5.42pm, a 23-year-old Nar Nar Goon man was caught travelling at 115 km/h on his motorcycle in an 80 km/h zone on the Princes Highway, Officer.
The man was on a learner’s permit and carrying a female passenger. He was fined $600 and lost four demerit points.
At 6.16pm, a 21-year-old Berwick man was caught doing 102 km/h on the same road.
The P-Plater, who had a BAC of .069, copped $900 in fines and lost 16 demerit points.
