THEY’RE two familiar faces, but not ones which residents expect to see behind the counter at the Kooweerup Newsagency.
Kooweerup couple Ron and Lynette Ingram took over the newsagency last fortnight – but most are sure to recognise them.
Lynette was born and bred in the swamp and spent more than 20 years teaching at Kooweerup Secondary College, while Ron has lived in the town for more than 50 years and previously operated the Tooradin Post Office.
Lynette said many customers still recognised her from her teaching days at the college, which she also attended as a teenager.
“I see different ones who say, ‘what are you doing here’?”
Ron said he loved seeing all the familiar faces, but was still coming to grips with the ins and outs of the recently acquired business.
“Last week it was total chaos, this week it’s controlled chaos,” he said with a laugh.
The Ingrams never dreamt they would one day own the newsagency.
“If you had asked me 12 months ago, I would’ve said you’re on the funny weed,” Ron joked.
