SKILTON, Hird, Voss, Barassi, Coventry and Dyer are famous footy names, but are even more popular with students at Beaconsfield Upper Primary School.
Six football teams competing in the newly formed BUPSFL are named in honour of the footy legends.
The lunchtime competition involves both boys and girls from Grades 4 to 6, while there are also some Grade 3 rookie footballers.
Grade 5/6 teacher Chris Pentland said the students were having a ball in what has proved an even competition. “Every team has had at least one win,” he said.
Each team has its own jumpers and theme songs and is sponsored by local businesses and the school’s Parents and Friends Association.
Student Jack said there had been much preparation before the competition was recently launched.
“The hard work has been worth it and the excitement around the new six teams is bigger than the excitement of the AFL at finals time,” Jack said.
