EXTRA bullocks of good quality lifted in price along with vealers at the fat cattle market at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange on Wednesday, while steers remained firm and heifers with less condition than usual eased slightly.
Thirty one bullocks rose 3.5 cents on average to make 177.7, with a good range of 170 to 180 cents.
Sixty five heifers mainly slipped in the lighter end while good quality in the top end kept their price firm. Heavy heifers made from 120 to 180.2 and light 57.2 to 165.2.
Forty two steers of which a large percentage were in the better end of the quality saw prices firm on last week; heavy steers made from 130 to 196.2 and light 128.2 to 170.
One hundred and fifty six vealers sold strongly and lifted 15 cents on average; heavy vealers reached a high of 228 and a low of 122.6, light vealers 100.6 to 196 cents.
Light quality cows on Thursday affected the price overall, easing the average four cents to 119.8, heavy quality cows were regarded as higher in price on last sale.
300 kilogram plus cows made from 40 to 147.2, sub 300 kilogram cows 50 to 92.6. Only nine bulls were yarded and the price was two cents easier at 152.3, range was 132 to 168 cents.
Bullocks sold to solid demand and contained some handy dairy cross bullocks with a range of 136.2 to 162 cents.

MONDAY CALF MARKET
Monday calf prices this week saw Friesian heifer calves rise in price making to $350. Market calves remained firm, while beef calves made to $140 keeping them firm on last week. A total of 660 calves were yarded for the sale.
