Stafford kicks on

RYE continued its successful Nepean League finals campaign when it hung on to score an exciting six-point first semi-final victory over Dromana on the back of four goals from former Richmond big man Greg Stafford.
The Demons led by three goals at the final change of the low-scoring contest on Saturday and had to withstand a last-quarter push from the desperate Tigers.
Stafford was joined on the best players list by veteran ex-AFL team-mate Stephen Ryan, who also plays with Rye.
In Sunday’s second semi-final reigning premier Sorrento was too good for Frankston, winning their clash by 12 points with coach and former St Kilda player Troy Schwarze booting three goals.
In Peninsula League action Frankston YCW defeated Mt Eliza by 41 points in the qualifying finals, running away with the game in the second half.
Ben Tellis and Lachlan Wallace booted three goals each for the victors, while Jay Neratzoglou was the only multiple goal kicker for Mt Eliza with two.
On Sunday Edithvale-Aspendale reversed the result of the week before to run out convincing 84-point winners over Bonbeach in the elimination final.
The Sharks were never in the game after quarter time, with Sea Eagle forward Lewis Roberts starring in attack, finishing the day with 10 goals.
