STAR News Group’s free family fun day will feature a host of entertainment, both on and off the stage.
To celebrate 100 years of the Pakenham-Berwick Gazette, a variety of musical acts to suit every taste will play original compositions and well-known hits from the past century.
Kooweerup Secondary College’s 10-piece stage band will play tribute songs starting with jazz favourite the St Louis Blues, first published in 1914.
Claudia Barker, the school’s music director, said the school’s three acts would cover a wide gamut of music.
“We will be doing some Beatles, some Blues Brothers songs, and songs from musicals. We are going to try and cover each decade,” she said.
Junior rock band ‘The Attack of the Slide Trombones,’ which recently won the regional battle of the bands at Cranbourne, will cover some Blink 182 songs and all-girl singing group ‘Cute Concepts’ will perform original compositions.
The Uncle Fungus acoustic duo, comprising Jimi Jones-Ellis and Rob O’Grady, will play a mix of originals and covers of hits from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s.
Younger music fans will also have an opportunity to get involved in the KidzRock Show, an interactive event that includes singing, dancing and prizes.
KidzRock co-ordinator Geoff Woods will also perform in Woodsy and Wooly alongside Mark Woolridge. The pair will present a lively session of Blues and Rock covers.
The entertainment won’t just be confined to the stage – roving performers will include Gazette mascot Wally the Wombat, who will be joined by mates Krackers the racehorse from Country Racing Victoria and Philbert the Frog from YMCA Cardinia LiFE.
The Star News Group free family fun day will be held on Sunday 13 September at the Star News Group offices, on the corner of Princes Highway and Army Road, Pakenham, from 10am to 2pm.
The event will also feature a free sausage sizzle, kids’ games and rides, an animal farm, Gazette Museum, and ‘cars through the decades’ display, plus much, much more.
