AFTER last week’s loss to Bentleigh, St Francis Xavier Old Collegians seniors had the chance to take them on again if they were to defeat St Mary’s on Saturday.
With a good week on the track and a confident group, the signs were great before the game.
In the first term the X-Men got off to a great start with players C. Van Dam, Pabts and K. Russo well on top. The X-Men were running St Mary’s off their feet and made them look slow on the big open ground.
At quarter time the feeling was good around the group, although an injury to McNally was about all of coach Lenders problems.
After the break St Mary’s took complete control of the game. They made the X-Men play the game on their terms. The X-Men were totally out-played for the rest of the game to end up with a massive defeat. It was a disappointing end to the season for the X-Men.
Although the X-Men came up a grade this season, it was a great effort to make the finals. The team looks forward to next season to finally take the holy grail of a flag for the young club.
