Brothers lead flag charge

FRANKSTON Bombers produced a stunning come-from-behind victory led by ex-AFL brothers Ryan and Nathan Lonie to take out the Nepean League grand final at Frankston Park on Saturday.
Trailing by 12 points at the final change, the super talented twins were devastating in the final-term demolition of Sorrento, helping the Bombers score eight unanswered goals and bolt away to a 37-point triumph.
Matt Longley starred in attack with four goals for the winners, while shattered Sorrento coach Troy Schwarze was at a loss to explain his side’s capitulation after they had led comfortably throughout the first three quarters of the low-scoring match.
In Peninsula League, Edithvale-Aspendale stormed home to down hot favourites Frankston YCW by four points in Sunday’s preliminary final.
The Sea Eagles finished fifth after the home-and-away season, but saved their best for the finals and will now attempt to complete a fairytale premiership win when they play Seaford in next weekend’s grand final.
Inaccuracy almost cost the Sea Eagles who booted 12.22 against the Stonecats’ 13.12 for the match.
However a six-goal final term effort with the wind, led by stars Tim Mannix, Mark Fitcher and Lewis Roberts, saw the underdogs snatch a famous victory and grab a chance of the ultimate glory.
