A BODY was found in Pakenham Upper on Saturday, nearly seven weeks after the disappearance of young Pakenham man Nathan Giles.
While the body has not yet been formally identified, police believe it is Mr Giles whose Holden Commodore was abandoned in bushland about one kilometre away.
Police notified Nathan’s mother, Kerry James, of the find on Monday morning, a day after Nathan’s 23rd birthday.
Mrs James and daughter Bree Giles are driving down from their Brisbane home as they wait on test results to confirm their worst fears.
Mrs James, who also believes the body is Nathan’s, said the family was planning to hold a funeral service in Pakenham to celebrate the life of her son.
She described Nathan as a typical young man who loved the outdoors and roaring around on his motorbike.
“He was easy going, he loved the outdoors,” Mrs James said.“He loved getting on his motorbike and went camping a lot as a kid.
Bree said Nathan was a great brother.
“He was just an all round good guy – he always made sure everyone was OK,” she said.
Nathan was last seen in Pakenham on the morning of 20 July.
His car was found on at a private property in Gordon Road that is frequented by walkers and trail bike riders.
Nathan’s disappearance sparked a full scale search involving the police air wing, dog squad, local police and the search and rescue squad.
A Pakenham Upper resident found a body of a young man on their property.
Acting Senior Sergeant Paul Bruders of Pakenham police said the body was in bushland and wasn’t hidden or buried.
Sen Sgt Bruders said the discovery was made just 300 to 400 metres away from areas police had previously searched.
He said police would be able to confirm the identity of the body over the next few days when they received the results of the autopsy.
