LAKESIDE Pakenham Community Bendigo Bank steering members has reached its initial $750,000 pledge target and is looking to open the branch early next year.
The recent completion of a feasibility study has also brought the branch a step closer to reality with the project now moving onto the prospectus stage.
Chairman David Impey said it was great that the initial pledge target, set in February 2008, had been reached.
“This is an excellent result that has come from many months of hard work from our steering committee and members of the public, particularly given the global financial crisis where money has been tight for many,” he said.
“We’ve actually had our best months in money being pledged over the past nine to 12 months, which is great.”
However, just because the initial target has been reached, it does not mean that people should stop pledging.
The branch can still receive pledges right up to the close of prospectus which will be towards the first half of 2010.
The prospectus stage is when pledgers send in the amount that they have indicatively pledged over the past 18 months.
Information from the Bendigo Bank and the Steering Committee will be sent out to pledgees shortly.
The branch will be opened in the Lakeside estate early next year after the building completion date was pushed back further than previously anticipated.
For further information on the bank and its progress, visit information tables outside Coles Lakeside on Saturdays from 11am to 1pm.
