Help replace light bulbs

A NEW scheme by Bunyip and District Bendigo Bank will help to flick the switch on climate change.
Ban The Bulb, launched last Monday, will offer local home and business owners the opportunity to replace their incandescent light bulbs with energy-saving ones.
The bulbs will be installed free of charge by local community volunteer groups.
Sue Dubbeld, from the Bunyip and District Community Bank Branch, said the change couldn’t be easier for residents.
“Under the initiative, the branch will work with Bunyip and Garfield Rotary Club to implement the bulb exchange,” she said. “Home and business owners can sign up at our branch to get the old bulbs in their homes and businesses changed to energy-efficient ones at no cost to them.
“Volunteers from Bunyip and Garfield Rotary Club will then visit the property and swap the bulbs for new ones and for each one exchanged the community group will be paid $2 through the Ban The Bulb program.”
Participating householders should see their energy bills fall by as much as $100 a year and businesses could cut their electricity spend by more than 30 per cent.
Ms Dubbeld has urged the community to go into the branch and sign up.
“Come in and see us and we’ll arrange a time for your bulbs to be exchanged,” she said. “It’s free of charge and you don’t even have to bank with Bendigo Bank to take part.”
